Beating the winter blues

We are in the middle of a typical Canadian January and all I seem to want to do is curl up at home in mismatching PJ's and eat chicken noodle soup. And despite being well aware of the salt content of those soups, I happily slurped bowl after bowl this afternoon until I actually finished the whole pot.

Yes, I ate a litre of chicken noodle soup today. Win.

Hope no one minds the British spelling of the word "litre"... I'm a native Australian :)

And keeping that in mind, I find the long winter months particularly difficult some years. As someone who grew up with long summers, year-round outdoor activities and vitamin D exposure, it's a bit of an adjustment!
No one can deny the magic that comes with the white season. The folds of snow blanketing roofs and blowing glittery snowflakes into the air every time the wind blows...*sigh*. Yes, it is a beautiful, amazing season.
But the cold, cold temperatures sometimes have me curling into a ball in the mornings and wishing myself to a warm, hot island where I don't need to wake up and crease my fresh outfit with "outerwear", battle the mounds of snow on the city streets (which quickly becomes brown slush thanks to the salting and trampling) and feel that awful feeling of having my nose/ears/cheeks/feet/fingers burning off.

So on this freezing Sunday night (-23 with wind chill) I have decided to prolong the good work of the chicken soup and continue lifting my spirits with some springtime dreaming and inspiration. It makes me happy to think of what I have to look forward to!
I can honestly say that spring never feels as good as when it arrives after a cold, long winter. In Australia, I barely noticed Spring. It was a brief time between the weather being hot enough to swim and only suitable to walk along the beach and dip my toes in. Springtime here is the most uplifting, exciting time of year. And that in itself makes bearing the winters fairly worth it.
